We now have less than a week until Selection Sunday and things are understandably getting rather excited with respect to March Madness. The NCAA tournament is one of the most popular sporting events in America, and around the world, and the closer we get to the action, the more tangible the event begins to feel. While there is no substitute for the fun and excitement that comes with the actual games, this is the time of year when plenty of reputations are made, staked or even broken. Whether you are keen to make some money by wagering on the event or you want to show off your basketball skills and knowledge, there is no shortage of information and tips being released on the expected outcome of the major event.
The Virginia Cavaliers are definitely one to look out for
The Virginia Cavaliers endured a painful end to their campaign, losing to Louisville, but there is no doubt that there was a slice of luck in deciding the match. This will great the Cardinals but they will know that if luck is on their side, they will be well positioned for a tilt at the March Madness crown, but in basketball, if your luck is out at the death, you may find that all of your hard work and effort counts for nothing.
The Cavaliers have a tremendous defensive record and this has all been achieved without Justin Anderson, who is expected to return extremely soon. Anderson has missed the team’s last 8 games but he has an average of 13.4 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game, making him a key player for the Cavaliers, who will be desperate to see him back in action.
Duke are coming into March Madness on a great run of form
Sometimes it is all about coming into March Madness in the right frame of mind or in great form. If this rings true, Duke will be doing extremely well as they ended their regular campaign with a winning run of 11 games. This sort of winning streak will always be well received but when you manage to achieve four big wins against highly rated opponents, you can rest assured that you are going to be looked at favourably.
One reason why the team are being considered to be a strong option came in their 94-51 triumph against Wake Forest. With Jahil Okafor only offering up 6 points in the game, it shows that Duke have strength in depth when it comes to grabbing points and winning games. Of course, in their final game of the campaign away to North Carolina, Okafor was back to his best with 14 points, which stemmed from a 7 from 9 record. This win should ensure that Duke is the top seed from the ACC.
While there are some teams who will fancy their chances of coming out on top, even against these sides, there is no getting away from the fact that Duke and the Cavs are sound bets to go far in March Madness this year.
