At this point of the year, everyone has their own March Madness story, and there will be a lot of dreams smashed or achieved in the next few days. If there is one thing that sports fans love, it is investing in a positive story, and there are plenty of great storylines taking place across the country in the run-up to the big event. These are just some of the stories that are occupying people in the run-up to Selection Sunday.

Can the Wildcats grab a top seed spot?

Villanova WildcatsThe Villanova Wildcats are just one of the many teams hunting down a number one spot this week but they genuinely have a viable chance of clinching this position. They do need to grab a win or two in the Big East tournament that takes place before March Madness but this is in their grasp and Dylan Ennis is stepping up to the plate at the right time. In his last three games, he has averaged 17.3 points and this is the sort of form that will propel a team into the main event with some confidence.

Will Kentucky reach perfection?

There are a number of basketball stories at the moment but the most pressing one revolves around the Kentucky Wildcats and their hunt for an unbeaten season. At the time of writing the article, the team was sitting with a 31-0 record, which is hugely impressive but there is still a lot of work to be done before they can claim the Invincibles tag. They need to achieve a 40-0 record if they want to become the first that has stayed undefeated for a year since 1975, when Indiana achieved it. Tres Lyles has averaged 11.8 points in his last six games and he will clearly need to be on form if Kentucky are going to reach their game. The hunt continues on Friday when the Wildcats will face up to Alabama or Florida in Nashville.

Will Buffalo find themselves in the spotlight

University at Buffalo Bulls LogoThere have been a number of squads from Western New York who have made an impact on the March Madness event with St Bonaventure, Canisius and Niagara all doing well but this year; the Buffalo Bulls are looking like having a big impact. At the moment, they are looking like second seeds in the Mid-American Conference and have a number of strong performers across the board, making them a team that can hurt you in various ways.

Who will progress from the ACC?

With Syracuse out of the running, there could be a chance for other teams to sneak through and grab a spot they wouldn’t have thought they were going to achieve earlier in the season. The Virginia Cavaliers aren’t quite in that bracket, they are after all the top seed in the ACC event and in all likelihood the second top team in the country, but they are the team that teams need to beat or get as close to in the ACC. Florida State and Boston College are just two of the teams who will be looking for some big results in the next few days.

Will Team Canada perform well?

New Mexico State Aggies LogoNew Mexico State are being billed as the unofficial Team Canada and with Paul Weir, the associate head coach, hailing from Toronto and give key players from Canada in the squad, it is easy to see why this will be the team that casual fans from north of the border will be backing. If New Mexico State make it to the 2015 March Madness, it will be fourth event in a row and they are currently number one seeds in the Western Athletic Conference Championship.
