Eurocup LogoThere were two Eurocup quarterfinal games on Tuesday the 16th of March and in both of the games, the home side won. This means that there is all to do for the two teams playing at home next week, which should set us up for some intriguing matches.

FC Bayern Munich 99 – Galatasaray Odeabank 89

Never mind the red balloons; it was the 99 points in Germany that Bayern Munich fans will be most pleased about this week. A 10 point win over Galatasaray means that Munich have a slight cushion heading into the second leg of this quarter final. This tie will be decided on Tuesday night and the Germans know that even a 9 point loss will be enough to place them into the semi-finals.

Deon Thompson had an excellent game, offering up 20 points, 9 rebounds and 2 blocks. Dusko Savanovic managed to provide 19 points, Alex Renfroe grabbed 17 points, John Bryant offered up 13 points and Bryce Taylor scraped into double-figures, providing 10 points for the winners.

The away team will look back on shipping the last 6 points of the game and be worried about next week, but they know that they have the chance to turn to it around. Vladimir Micov picked up 22 points, Stephane Lasme provided 18 points, Errick McCollum grabbed 15 points and Blake Schilb provided 13 points in the loss.

Dolomiti Energia Trento 83 – E7 Emporio Armani Milan 73

Eurocup - TrentoJust like the game in Germany, this match was won by 10 points by the hosts, and Dolomiti will be hoping to defend their lead in Milan next week. This is the highest level club game the team has ever played in but even a 9 point loss next week would see them break new ground.

It was an even game into the third quarter but a 16-2 scoring run from the hosts, opened the game up. The away team got back within 3 points with less than 3 minutes on the clock but again like the other quarter, there was a late flourish from the hosts. A 10-3 scoring run created a positive lead for the hosts to defnd next week.

Giuseppe Poeta grabbed 20 points to boost the leaders while Davide Pascolo provided 19 points and 9 rebounds, Julian Wright helped himself to a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds while both Trent Lockett and Dominque Sutton grabbed 12 points for the winners. Milan were kept in the contest by Mantas Kalnietis grabbing 16 points, Milan Macvan providing 14 points and Jamel McLean offering up 12 points.
