Euroleague - I Feel DevotionFriday night saw the conclusion of Round 2 of the Top 16 and Group F is looking like it is going to feature some big games and big teams from this point forward. Group E will no doubt showcase some top games too but there is definitely a battle shaping up in the second of the two groups.

Group E

Zalgiris Kaunas 75 – Alba Berlin 62

This was a game that Kaunas took comtrol of early on and stayed in front for the entire match. Alba would always nip the deficit back, never allowing Kaunas to fully run away with the game but there was always a comfortable margin until the final quarter. There threatened to be an upset at this point and with less than 3 minutes left on the clock, the Kaunas lead was cut to four points but this inspired Kaunas to go on an 11-2 run to finish the game off.

James Anderson grabbed 16 points while Paulius Jankunas picked up 14 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Arturas Milaknis also made a nuisance of himself, grabbing 12 points while Arturas Gudaitis helped himself to 11 points. Jamel McLean offered 16 points while Cliff Hammonds provided 13 points and Marko Banic provided 12.

  • Q3: 53-46

FC Barcelona 80 – Panathinaikos Athens 76

Both teams now hold a 1-1 record as the game between two major outfits in the European basketball circuit was clinched by the home team. There was just a point between the teams late on but with Marcelino Heurtas grabbing 22 points for the Catalan side, they were able to edge it in the end. Justin Doellman offered 12 points while Alex Abrines and Mario Hezonja provided 11 points. Panathinaikos were kept in the game with DeMarcus Nelson grabbing 16 points while James Gist provided 11 points.

Anadolou Efes Istanbul 74 – Unicaja Malaga 70

Even though the home side were trailing by 15 at half-time, they managed to turn things around and ensured they ended the night with a 2-0 record. At the same time, the defeat condemned Malaga to a 0-2 record. Matt Janning served up 17 points for the winners but Dontaye Draper will take plenty of the plaudits with 5 points (from his total of 13) being scored in the final two minutes. It was Draper’s three pointer that sealed the game in the dying seconds. Stratos Perperoglou offered 13 points and Cedi Osman provided 12 points for the winners while Vladimir Golubovic and Mindaugas Kuzminskas were the top scoreres for Unicaja, both grabbing 10 points each.

Four teams have a 2-0 record after 2 games with Real Madrid from Group E and Olympiacos Piraeus, CSKA Moscow and Anadolu Efes Istanbul in Group F. Similarly, four teams have a 0-2 record after 2 games and again, the split is one team from Group E and three teams from Group F. The Group E team with a 0-2 record is Crvena Zvezda Telekom Belgrade while the three Group F teams are Unicaja Malaga, Laboral Kutxa Vitoria and EA7 Emporio Armani Milan.

With CSKA Moscow and Anadolu Efes Istanbul playing each other in Round 3, at least one of the Group F 100% records will go while either Milan or Laboral will grab their first win when they play each other.
