Euroleague

The new Euroleague betting season is only one day away. The 2022/23 Euroleague season will welcome a few new teams and many new faces. There are high expectations for Virtus Segafredo Bologna, with Serbian point guard Miloš Teodosić strongly representing Basket City’s team, but who was left out of this summer’s EuroBasket roster, KK Partizan NIS led by legendary coach Željko Obradović and Valencia Basket who are a top contender in the Spanish ACB league.

Euroleague betting kicks off on the 6th of October with the following games:

  • Panathinaikos Athens vs. Real Madrid
  • ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne vs. EA7 Olimpia Milano
  • Maccabi Tel Aviv vs. Zalgiris Kaunas
  • Bayern Munich vs. Fenerbahçe Istanbul
  • Valencia Basket vs. Saski Baskonia

On the 7th of October we will again see some interesting betting action. The following games are on the schedule:

  • Anadolu Efes Istanbul vs. Crvena Zvezda Belgrade
  • Alba Berlin vs Partizan Belgrade
  • Barcelona vs. Olympiacos Piraeus
  • Virtus Bologna vs. AS Monaco Basket

Notable new faces

There are a few new players coming (back) to Euroleague basketball this year. Notable players such as Thomas Satoransky (2.01 m) to Barcelona, Semi Ojeleye (1.98 m) to Virtus Bologna, Nemanja Bjelica (2.09 m), Jonathan Motley (2.06 m) and Carsen Edwards (1.80 m) to Fenerbahçe Istanbul), Ignas Brazdeikis (1.98 m) to Zalgiris Kaunas, Naz Mitrou-Long (1.93 m) to Olimpia Milano, Parker Jackson-Cartwright (1.80 m) to Lyon-Villeurbanne and Marcus Howard (1.78 m) to Saski Baskonia. They will all return to the Euroleague or make their rookie debut after having played in the NBA before.

Movements

Also many players have switched from one Euroleague team to another. Nemanja Nedović is coming home to the capital of Serbia, after having played for his beloved Panathinaikos last season. Also new for Crvena Zvezda (or Red Star) is Ben Bentil, who had a successful domestic campaign with Olimpia Milano last season. Nikola Kalinic moves away from Red Star to Barcelona.

Some big names leave Fenerbahçe Istanbul

Fenerbahce

Maybe one of the most notable changes is Jan Veselý who leaves Fenerbahçe after eight consecutive seasons and brings his experience to help coach Šarūnas Jasikevičius finally win a Euroleague title. Another player leaving Fenerbahçe Istanbul is Nano De Colo. De Colo will move back to his country to play for ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne, the team owned by NBA Legend Tony Parker.

Maccabi Tel Aviv sees the most new players arriving. The Israeli team welcomes ten new players. Lorenzo Brown, who led the Spanish national team to an EuroBasket championship, is the most recognisable face on the roster.

On a side note, EuroBasket’s standout Mateusz Ponitka, who became fourth in the tournament representing Poland (upsetting Slovenia and Luka Dončić), will be a new face on Panathinaikos’ roster. Dante Exum already leaves Barcelona and finds a new challenge at Partizan Belgrade. He will be playing alongside Kevin Punter who is the first non-Serbian captain on the team, since many years.

Another Euroleague player that we like to keep on our radar is Gabriele Procida. The Italian basketball player was drafted with the 36th overall pick by the Portland Trailblazers, after playing for Fortitudo Bologna in the Italian Serie A. Although the young player could’t prevent his former team from degrading to the Serie A2 and wasn’t part of the Italian National team at EuroBasket either, his athleticism is from out of this world and we’re anxious to see his talent develop with Alba Berlin.

Euroleague betting

This season, at Basketball Betting, we will point our arrows on Euroleague betting. Although betting on the NBA is very interesting, European basketball brings a lot more excitement, as each game matters. Having thorough knowledge of the teams, the players, the culture and background, has a huge impact on placing bets on the Euroleague.

That being said, we’re not completely denying the NBA. It is still the biggest and most important basketball league in the world and to most bettors. Also to us. Once the 77th NBA season begins on the 16th of October, you can rest assured that we will be ready to cover it.
