04/03/2015 19:15 – Alba Berlin v Zalgiris Kaunas

Euroleague Top 16 Betting Tips - Alba Berlin v Zalgiris KaunasThis is a massive game for both teams because the winning team will find themselves just one win away from fourth place. Now that we are the second half of the Top 16, things are getting serious and there are three nights of Euroleague betting action for players to look forward to this week. The first game takes place on Wednesday the 4th of March and it sees Alba Berlin welcoming Zalgiris Kaunas to Germany.

The home side has been in good form of late with a win over reigning Euroleague champions Maccabi and then an OT loss in Barcelona. When you think that Jamel McLean has been absent, it’s been a great run of form for the German side. Mind you, Kaunas have won two of their three most recent games and they will be looking to continue in this form on Wednesday night.

Both teams need to improve their Top 16 standings

Euroleague - Alba BerlinAlba hold a 7-11 record this season which contains a 4-6 record in the regular season and a 3-5 record in the Euroleague. Kaunas also hold a 3-5 record in the Euroleague this season and they have an 8-10 record overall thanks to their 5-5 record in the regular season.

When it comes to average points scored, Alba hold an advantaged having notched an average of 73.1 points per game compared to an average of 70.4 points per game for Kaunas.

It is likely that Jamel McLean will miss this game for Alba, with the team hopeful that he will be back in action in the following week. When you take on board the fact that he has averaged 14.0 points per game and also offered an average of 5.3 rebounds per game, his importance cannot be overstated. Alex Renfroe will be a key player for the Germans and he has offered up an average of 4.7 assists per game.

When it comes to grabbing points for Zalgiris, James Anderson has been the main man, offering up an average of 14.6 points per game so far this campaign while Paulius Jankunas has provided an average of 6.9 rebounds per game. There has also been assistance from Lukas Lekavicius who has offered up an average of 2.3 assists per game for the Lithuanian giants.

Both teams have slipped recently in domestic games

Alba have slipped to third in the German league and they now hold a 19-4 record. Their most recent domestic game saw them lose 67-55 away to Ludwigsburg but they were scheduled to play a home game against Brose Bask on the 3rd of March.

Zalgiris sit at the top of the Lithuanian league with a 24-3 record, although Neptunas are close behind them. The most recent domestic game for Zalgiris was a 86-90 home defeat to Neptunas, which is the key factor why Neptunas are closing in on the league leaders.

Taking Alba with a -4 handicap, and odds of 1.90 is likely to be a decent bet for the action on Wednesday night. There is an Over/Under market available for the game and going Under 144.5, at odds of 1.90, isn’t a bad bet given that this game is likely to be a close one. Both of these bets can be found with Bet365.
