As we move closer to the basketball tournament at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, it is understandable to see why there is an increase in the range of betting options. We don’t yet have the odds on the individual matches but if you are looking to get involved with the tournament, there is now a selection of Futures markets open for you.
The betting market for the tournament has a whole has been available for some time with Team USA the clear favourite. However, the odds available aren’t that attractive and this has left many people waiting to see what other basketball betting opportunities will arise. Bet365 have now announced a range of Futures markets for the Rio Games, so there is plenty of scope to get involved.

Betting Without Favourite
With so many people expecting Team USA to grab the gold medal, and the odds reflecting their superiority, there is a lot to be said for looking at who is the best team outside of the Americans. The Betting Without Favourite removes the Americans from the competition and you suddenly have a more level playing field to consider.
In this market, Spain are the favourites and can be backed at 2.75 while France are close behind at 4.00. Serbia are found at 5.00 while the host nation Brazil is listed at 9.00. Lithuania can be backed at 10.00 and Argentina are on offer at 11.00. Croatia are found at 15.00, Australia are at 26.00, Nigeria can be backed at 81.00, as can Venezuela and if you are looking to back the rank outsider, you will find China at 126.00.
To Win Group
If you don’t want to look too far into the future, ignore the knock-out stage of the tournament and focus solely on the Group stages. You can place a bet on which team will win their group, which can provide you with a good early return from the tournament.
To Win Group A
Unsurprisingly, USA are the clear favourites to win Group A and they can be backed at 1.030. France are the most likely to cause an upset and they can be found at 11.00 to win Group A while Serbia are listed at 15.00 to win Group A. Australia are found at 67.00 to top Group A, Venezuela are listed at 251.00 to top Group A and China can be backed at 501.00 to win Group A.
To Win Group B
Without USA, the betting on Group B is a bit more favourable and Spain are the favourites with odds of 1.72 to win Group B. Brazil can be backed at 5.50 to lead Group B and Lithuania are on offer at 6.00 to win Group B. Argentina can be found at 9.00 to take Group B and there are odds of 10.00 for Croatia to win Group B. The outsiders from the start are Nigeria, who are backed at 101.00 to clinch Group B.
There is even a chance to bet on the Group that the overall tournament winners will come from. Again, there is no surprise to learn that the group hosting the Americans is the favourite in this field. This means Group A can be backed at odds of 1.050 to provide the winner of the tournament while Group B is listed at odds of 10.00 to provide the winner of the 2016 Olympic basketball tournament.
To Win Medal
Knockout tournaments can see upsets occur and if you don’t want to go full on for a Gold Medal bet, why not place a bet on a team finishing with a medal? If you bet a team in this field and they take Gold, Silver or Bronze, your bet will come in.
For USA to win a medal, the odds are 1.010 while Spain are listed at 1.66 to take a medal home from Brazil. France can be found at 2.00 to take a medal home from Brazil and Serbia can be backed at 2.75 to finish in the medal placings. The hosts can be backed at 4.50 to clinch a medal in Rio and Lithuania are found at odds of 5.00 to win a medal. If Argentina are celebrating winning a medal in the home of their rival, the odds of 6.00 will be of value and Croatia are found at odds of 8.00 to take home a medal.
Australia are ranked at 21.00 to bag a medal in Brazil, Venezuela and Nigeria are listed at 67.00 to win a medal in Brazil and China can be backed at 101.00 to win a medal in Rio this summer.
